Frequently Asked Questions: PracticalCME Botox and Dermal Filler Training in Phoenix / Scottsdale

Clear answers on venue, format, faculty, curriculum, credit hours (including nursing pharmacology), scope of practice, and logistics. For the full positioning, see the Botox and Filler training hub page.

Where is the Phoenix / Scottsdale training venue?

The Phoenix / Scottsdale Botox and Dermal Filler session is held at a professional hotel conference venue in the Phoenix-Scottsdale metropolitan area, convenient to Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX), Old Town Scottsdale, and the major hotels serving the Valley of the Sun. The exact hotel is confirmed with registered attendees ahead of each training weekend, so you know exactly where you are going before you book travel.

What is the live hands-on day like at the Phoenix / Scottsdale session?

The hands-on day runs 4.5 hours. The time is spent on a brief review and Q&A, patient assessment, treatment planning for each patient on the day’s schedule, and hands-on injection on live patients under direct MD supervision. The accredited 7.25-hour online CME course is prerequisite and self-paced, so no part of the live Phoenix / Scottsdale day is spent catching up on didactic content. Every attendee performs the full workflow: anesthetic, facial prep, injection, and aftercare.

Who teaches the Phoenix / Scottsdale session?

Dr. Gregory P. Zengo, MD, FACOG, personally leads the live hands-on at the Phoenix / Scottsdale training center. Dr. Zengo founded PracticalCME in 2008, authored the Botox and Dermal Filler curriculum first published in 2012, and was trained in botulinum toxin by Dr. Jean Carruthers in 2001. He is a board-certified physician and surgeon with 24 years of injection experience and actively treats patients in his own practice.

How many hours of CME credit is the Phoenix / Scottsdale Botox and Filler training?

11.75 total contact hours: 7.25 ACCME-accredited online CME hours (including 4.7 nursing pharmacology hours) plus a separate 4.5-hour Hands-On Certificate of Completion. Credit totals are identical at every PracticalCME city.

Does the Phoenix / Scottsdale course count for nursing pharmacology hours?

Yes. 4.7 pharmacology hours are included within the 7.25 online CME hours for both AANP (nurse practitioners) and ANCC (registered nurses). This is only possible because PracticalCME holds direct ACCME accreditation through the Global Education Group joint provider arrangement. Programs that route accreditation through AAFP, dental boards, or state society equivalence credit cannot award pharmacology hours regardless of how the certificate is worded. Nurses who have struggled to meet pharmacology hours each licensing cycle find this a significant benefit. Rolled out in 2026 after direct attendee feedback.

What is covered in the Botox curriculum at the Phoenix / Scottsdale session?

FDA-labeled indications: glabella, lateral canthal lines (crow’s feet), forehead, and platysma bands (Botox FDA-approved 2024). Dosing and handling for all 6 FDA-approved neurotoxin brands. Off-label indications well-supported in the peer-reviewed literature and included in both the online didactic and the live hands-on: masseter and lower face (DAO, mentalis), small-dose frontalis for brow balance, bunny lines, gummy smile, and low-volume reconstitution technique. Not taught by design: Trap Tox at supraphysiologic doses, Barbie Botox, and any technique whose evidence base is a viral video rather than a peer-reviewed study.

What is covered in the dermal filler curriculum?

Hands-on filler technique in Phoenix / Scottsdale: lips (volume and shape), perioral lines, nasolabial folds, and marionette lines. Technique and safety instruction: needle versus cannula selection, vascular anatomy and danger zones, product selection by indication, hyaluronidase reversal, vascular occlusion protocol, and the step-by-step vision-loss response algorithm. Not taught by design: mid-face filler, chin and jaw projection with HA, and high-volume cheek sculpting. The decision to keep mid-face out of the curriculum is deliberate and based on 24 years of injection experience.

How much toxin and filler is included for hands-on practice?

Every Phoenix / Scottsdale attendee receives a guaranteed 20 units of BTX-A and 1cc of hyaluronic acid filler for live injection practice at no additional charge. The product is included in tuition and dispensed on the day of the hands-on.

Can I bring my own patients for additional hands-on?

Yes. There is no cap on hands-on if you bring your own suitable patients and purchase additional toxin and filler at below-retail rates on the day of the Phoenix / Scottsdale training. Many providers bring one or two additional patients to extend their supervised experience before performing procedures in their own practice.

How are the hands-on patients recruited and consented?

Every hands-on patient at the Phoenix / Scottsdale training is consented by Dr. Zengo as a PracticalCME patient. Attendees never pay the patient, never collect money from the patient, never sign a treatment agreement with the patient, and never carry individual liability for the hands-on treatment. The faculty MD is the treating physician on the record. PracticalCME does not use paid community models who charge the training company.

Which licensed providers can register for the Phoenix / Scottsdale training?

Registered Nurses, Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants, Physicians (MD and DO), Dentists (DDS/DMD), and Naturopathic Doctors (ND) licensed in Arizona where their legal scope of practice allows aesthetic injection. Arizona is one of the states where NDs can register for aesthetic injection training. The curriculum covers Arizona-specific delegation and supervising physician requirements in detail. Completing a training course does not alter the legal scope of practice for the attendee’s licensure.

Can an RN or NP from another state attend the Phoenix / Scottsdale training on a compact license?

Arizona is an RN compact license state, so RNs from any compact state can practice as RNs in Arizona. However, an NP license is state-specific and does not travel with the compact. An NP from outside Arizona attending the Phoenix / Scottsdale training should confirm their own home-state licensure for aesthetic injection before offering the procedure in their own practice. Dr. Zengo is licensed and the treating physician on the record for all hands-on patients.

Is a payment plan available for the Phoenix / Scottsdale training?

Yes. Affirm financing is available at checkout, with rates as low as 0% APR for 6 months for qualified applicants. Longer repayment terms are available at standard APR. Tuition and the Affirm option are published on the product page. There is no sales call to find out the price and no scholarship application process. The accredited online course is accessible immediately upon purchase, and the Phoenix / Scottsdale hands-on component can be scheduled at any available date within the two-year access window.

Botox Training Scottsdale Courses for Nurses, Physicians and Nurse Practitioners are taught by PracticalCME throughout the year. PracticalCME’s FAST TRACK ™ Online plus Live Blended learning allows participants to learn the material at home at your own pace prior to the live hands-on training date. Therefore, you will be fully confident in your knowledge, and earn your first of two CME certificates before you even attend the live Phoenix class date. Then, at the live date you will experience…

Our blended dual-certification online + live training leads the industry. As a result, PracticalCME has earned an average of 4.8 stars in reviews from actual attendees since our first blended FAST TRACK Botox Training Course was held in 2014. In addition, we have paired up our Botox and Dermal Filler Training with Cosmetic Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) so that you can certify in both at the same live training date, because we know your time is valuable.

Why are PracticalCME Scottsdale Aesthetic Training Attendees More Successful?

Our Scottsdale Botox Training Course focuses on customizing the treatment plan to the patient’s own movement, and never follows a “cookbook” approach. For example, we teach a different dilution and precise muscle identification techniques so you can truly isolate the true cause of the patient’s wrinkles and effectively stop the clock on their aging process even on your first few patients, without having to see the patient back for touch-up treatments. The online course material drills these techniques home with additional treatment videos demonstrating the best technique prior to your live hands-on training class.

Our Dermal Filler Training Course curriculum focuses on using less product but at the proper depth to achieve the most natural filling of static folds and wrinkles of the face, in addition to the most natural lip reinflation techniques. Moreover, you will be impressed with the results when simply using the right technique and depth at your supervised hands-on treatment session. Their folds and wrinkles will disappear before your eyes while your patient remains comfortable.

As a result, PracticalCME has heard from many RN’s who took our training and taught their supervising physicians a few things upon return to the office.
